One of the strengths of the Akai MPC Sample is its simplicity, but that also means there are fewer customization options compared to larger MPC models. In this video, Conan explains how he created a custom startup template to make every new project faster and more consistent.
Instead of starting from Akai's default project settings every time, he loads a personalized template that matches his workflow. His template includes:
90 BPM as the default tempo, since most projects fall between 80 and 100 BPM.
Global BPM mode, so all sequences stay synchronized.
4-bar sequences instead of the default 2 bars, providing more room to sketch ideas.
Master compressor bypassed, avoiding unwanted processing from the start.
Knob FX set to Low Pass Filter but bypassed, ensuring a clean, neutral starting point until effects are actually needed.
The philosophy behind the template is simple: start every project with a completely clean slate. Just like in a professional recording studio, all processors are bypassed and settings are neutral, giving you full control over every sound you add.
Conan also recommends saving the template on external storage rather than the MPC's internal memory, making it easier to back up, share, and transfer between devices.
The startup template is available as a free download (via the link in the video's description on his YouTube channel), and while you can use it as-is, it's also a great starting point for creating your own personalized workflow.
